TREATMENT AT DISTANCE

1/21/2017

0 Commentaires

In 2016 I have been approached by 3 patients that I had never met in person: one in Paris and two in New York. All three suffered musculosekeletal disorders (neck pain, lower back pain and elbow pain respectively). They wanted to be treated by the TIPM Mensendieck therapy but could not travel to Lausanne (Switzerland).

Their medical diagnosis was requested beforehand, and we tried individual treatment by Skype. After a few months, the conclusion is clear: they are now doing well. [...]
They restarted their usual daily activities in such as way that they don't hurt their body anymore. Relieved from a "useless biomechanical load", their musculosekeletal system can progressively recover while they remain active. They have learned how to manage the few pains and aches that may appear here and there. But mainly, their anxiety has fallen, exactly as with all our "normal" patients.

Their motivation was a key success factor. Hence, my assessment is that distance treatment can bring almost the same results as traditional treatment, provided that both therapist and patient are even more committed.

These 3 individual stories also remind us of essential facts:
  • the symptoms of biomechanical overuse (muscle and joint pain, mainly) have to be treated at their root cause. This is a hands-off approach, as it concerns behavioural change;
  • it would be a fake promise to guarantee a pain-free life. However, a function-full life is at reach, and this is the key to true happiness!
