how can we prevent musculoskeletal pain at school?

In schools, ergonomics is a often real problem; in my lectures, I explain why it is impossible for a child, as well as for an adult, to be well seated on the wooden chairs, without lumbar support, that we provide to children. The first axis is therefore material:

  • in the short term, set up workshops to improve the existing furniture (DIY a footrest, a seat cushion, a lumbar support). These workshops also allow teaching children a skill that will be crucial to them: how to improve their own equipment, so as to better protect their backs.

  • in the medium term, invest in more ergonomic furniture. I'm happy to advise bursars and government departments on the specifications to be respected.

The second axis is organizational: how to organize the teaching to avoid prolonged sitting postures? In other words, how to allow children to alternate between different postures while continuing to learn. Again, this is a skill that will be essential in the workplace.

The third axis is the recognition of good and bad postures, and postural pedagogy. Since "stand up straight" is toxic advice, as well as "back your shoulders", what can we advise children? What can we tell them to guide them towards a healthy posture?

The last axis is postural exercises: muscular relaxation exercises to be done frequently during the day, but also muscular strengthening exercises (during general education classes or during PE classes), adapted to every age.

how can we work together?

I work with state services, municipalities or schools. Let's get to know each other, talk about your needs and we will find the best way to move forward together. In Switzerland, I can travel; in other countries, it is easier to work by videoconference, at least at first.
